About

TYLER HERALD (he/him/his) is a New York-based scenic, environmental, and production designer originally from the Midwest. He gravitates towards new work. When confronted with the canon, he seeks to find new meanings and provoke discussions that challenge the conversation.

Tyler values the art of collaboration and finds joy in the process of creating with others. Rather than focusing singularly, he aims to find ways of storytelling that activate a moment utilizing all tools of design and staging.

Previous collaborators include: City Lyric Opera, Opera Idaho, Bristol Riverside Theatre, Theatre C, Teatro Ciego, Theatre Row, Glimmerglass Festival, Korins Studio, Neil Patel, Adam Koch Associates, among others.

Tyler holds a B.A. in Theater from Western Illinois University and an M.F.A. in Scenic Design from University of Maryland, College Park.

He is a 2024 recipient of OPERA America’s Robert L.B. Tobin Director-Designer Prize alongside team Rebecca Miller Kratzer, Anisa Rose Threlkeld, Stacey Boggs, and Camilla Dely.

He is a proud member of United Scenic Artists, Local 829.
